Wedding at Waldorf Astoria: Miracle on 34th Street…(well not quite, it was 49th Street)
Thursday the 21st of January
There is nothing better than Christmastime in the New York City..creating the most romantic & whimsical feel a city could produce. The Finishing Touch recently had a couple from Delaware come to us to plan a small and intimate wedding for December 28, 2009. Lewis had proposed to Christina at Rockefeller Center at Christmastime, and they felt it was only fitting to also have the ceremony in New York City in late December.
Having three children and the holidays looming, Christina and Lewis were seeking someone who could pull the wedding of their dreams together in only 4 weeks. Considering the date of the event falling on a Monday, we were lucky that many of our vendors had availability and flexibility. The Finishing Touch pulled together the wedding our couple had envisioned; a suite at the famous Waldorf Astoria, complete with lavender and ivory floral designs, string musicians, photography and of course, cake.
The Finishing Touch Event Design team created a romantic & soft ambiance in the suite with a lavender and ivory color theme. The room was decorated with white tulips, lavender rose petals, alternating height pillar candles and of course votives everywhere to create the perfect ambiance.
We were lucky to have Julie Laudicina, a fabulous and thorough wedding officiant, perform the marriage ceremony. Julie always creates very personalized and sentimental ceremonies for our couples. Please visit her blog to read more about Christina & Lewis's wedding ceremony at the Waldorf and how they were able to incorporate the three children in a special and unique way.

Immediately following the heartfelt and tearful marriage ceremony, the couple enjoyed cutting their snowflake-inspired three tiered cake to strings playing 'Ode to Joy'. The cake was decorated with a chocolate 'K' as a topper; a fun & personal spin on typical cake toppers. Considering it was a small ceremony and not many people were to eat the cake, we were able to have a cake with a faux middle tier. This option allows couples to cut costs without anyone noticing and is very common now-a-days in the cake business.
Once the suite ceremony wrapped up, one of our favorite photographers, Francesco, took the family around the timeless Waldorf Astoria for photos. The family then dined at the classy and delicious Rothmann's Steakhouse on 54th Street and ended the night back at the Waldorf's warm and cozy suite. We were so happy to help another wonderful couple have another memorable wedding day.
Wishing you a happy & healthy New Year,
Nicole
