Irene & Alex: Classical Style

A classy and chic intimate wedding of 40 guests in one of the greatest cities of the world was held on Saturday, September 13, 2008.  Friends and family from all over the world, as close as New York City and as far away as New Zealand, came to witness the marriage of Alex and Irene.

Perhaps one of the most stunning elements of this wedding was the Bride’s gorgeous gown created by Oscar de la Renta.   Irene was in fact the first to wear this creation made for Oscar’s 2009 line.  The dress has since been featured in so many magazines and TV shows that we have continued to be excited by it even a month after the wedding.

In her stunning gown, clutching a bouquet of pink spray roses, Irene walked the pathways in the Conservatory Garden of Central Park to meet her Groom Alex in the most perfect spot.  The couple was married next to the fountain in the South Garden’s secret garden, in a truly personal ceremony officiated by a dear friend.

To reflect the Bride's musical background, guests received classical music inspired ceremony programs created by The Finishing Touch's Event Design division.

With our fingers crossed, the rain held out and the cloudy day was actually great lighting for photographs. After the ceremony, the couple made their way through Central Park and along Park Avenue for some great city shots together. They then made their way to midtown in a yellow vintage Checkered Cab.  Along the way there was applause and cheers of congratulations accompanied by many pictures taken at the sight of Alex and Irene in their unique means of transport.

The couple’s intimate reception was held at Le Bernardin, a renowned French restaurant, famous for their exquisite menu and service. The private room was lit by candlelight and the tables were decorated with orchids and hundreds of pink roses. Guests mingled for an hour while a string quartet played in the background, enjoying delicious hors d’ouevres.

As guests entered the room for dinner they were provided with a unique favor, which was very special to our Bride.  The team at The Finishing Touch’s Event Design division had created small photo books showcasing a picture of each guest, along with a personal Biography, which had been written by Alex and Irene.  It was very important to Alex and Irene that their guests were comfortable and that they knew each other and the books allowed for this in such a creative way.  They were a huge hit with all the guests.

Guests were served a four-course meal from Le Bernardin made up of amazing food such as Tuna Foie Gras, Red Snapper and our personal favorite Zucchini Flower stuffed with Peekytoe Crab and Black Truffle Sauce.   Each course was paired with an amazing wine specially chosen by Alex.

As is traditional in European weddings, Alex and Irene were toasted by many family and friends.  The speeches given, especially by Alex’s brother Andrew, brought laughter and tears to all eyes in the room, including our own.

Family and friends wined and dined for hours together and it was hard to miss the big smile the Bride had glued to her face all evening. All in all, the wedding was a complete success and was an ultimate savvy New York wedding.
