Top 7 Tips For Selecting Your Wedding Videographer

Check out this great feature from our good friend and NJ Wedding Videographer Damon Dietz of Absolute Media Productions! In this post, Damon shares the top tips for selecting your wedding videographer.

1.    Talented wedding filmmakers’ schedules fill up fast, so book early
Once you have scheduled a wedding date, you should waste no time in starting your search for your videographer. The most talented ones are booked heavily in advance, so make shopping for a videographer a top priority.

2.    Ask Your Wedding Planner
Wedding planners work with videographers all of the time so usually have a list of preferred vendors. Your planner will discuss with you the different styles of video and which videographer will suit both your personality and of course your budget!

3.   Check out magazines and blogs
Don’t look for the big budget companies who advertise here! Rather; seek out the sections of the magazine or blog that are dedicated to showcasing the “real weddings.” Magazines will showcase the photographer’s pictures from the wedding and also list other vendors who worked on the wedding, such as the videographer, and blogs can showcase both the video and photographs from the event. These “real wedding” features are handpicked by the editor and feature only the best and most unique vendors.

4.    Search the internet
Once you have asked for referrals and checked out the “real weddings” featured by blogs and magazines that you love, you can always use the internet to help refine your search. You can use Google to search for reviews of the studios you are interested in learning more about, and third party sites like Wedding Wire or OneWed for third party ratings and reviews as well.    Also, be sure to check out the Better Business Bureau for any possible problems or complaints against a studio you may be interested in using to produce your wedding film.

5.    Personality, personality, personality
When you first have the opportunity to speak with the studio, the conversation should be fun, relaxed, and informative. Make sure you vibe with the studio from the first telephone call, all the way until the delivery of your film.

6.    Review portfolios
When looking at a videographer’s collection of work, focus on finding videos that capture your attention emotionally. You should immediately fall in love with the work when you see it. Once you have narrowed your list to one or two videographers, ask each of them to show you a full wedding film. This will give you a much better idea as to what you can expect than a variety of samples from different weddings.

7.    Ask plenty of questions
Whether you choose an in-person consultation or a telephone consultation, you have to take the opportunity to ask what is important to you. Each bride & groom will have a different set of concerns, but here are some important questions to start off with:
a.    How long have you been in business?

b.    What separates you from other videographers?

c.    Do you use on camera lights?

d.    Do you shoot in high definition, and will I receive my wedding on high definition Blu-ray discs?

e.    Do I get to choose music for my film?

f.    What are the costs for the various levels of coverage?

g.    What are the payment terms?

2011 Celebrity Weddings

There were so many fabulous celebrity weddings in 2011!

From grand tented wedding receptions to barefoot beach ceremonies- celebs were sure to make their wedding reflect their personal style.

Check out some of our favorite celebs wedding day details – sorry Kim K, you didn’t quite make the kut.

Reese Witherspoon + Jim Toth

Academy Award Winning Actress Reese Witherspoon tied the knot earlier this year to Hollywood agent Jim Toth. The couple were married on her farm in Ojai, California and the bride looked stunning in a blush Monique Lhuillier gown. Though wearing traditional heels for the ceremony, Reese shared that she slipped into her own cowboy boots at the reception for dinner and dancing!

Gene Simmons + Shannon Tweed

After dating for 28 years – yes, you heard right 28! – KISS frontman Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed tied the knot on October 1st. Their ceremony and reception was held at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA in front of 400 guests!

Michael Buble + Luisana Lupilato

Our favorite crooner, Michael Buble and actress Luisana Lupilato were wed not once, not twice but three times this year! After holding a civil ceremony in her native land in Argentina, they held a formal ceremony and reception there in front of 300 guests. A month later it was off to Canada, Michael’s native, for celebration number three with 350 guests on hand to toast to the newlyweds..well fairly newlyweds!

Michael Kors + Lance LePere

One of TFT’s all time faves, fashion designer Michael Kors, married his longtime boyfriend Lance LePere . The couple exchanged vows in a barefoot beach ceremony this summer on the beaches of Southampton, NY. LePere had begun working with Kors back in 1990 as an intern and it was love at first sight!

Niecy Nash + Jay Tucker

Funny gal Niecy Nash said ‘I Do!’ this spring to engineer Jay Tucker. Married in the beautiful Malibu, CA the couple held an outdoor ceremony at the Church Estate Vineyard that was then followed with an amazing tented reception. 200 guests were in attendance including Holly Robinson-Peete, Sherri Shepherd, and Brandy.

Prince William + Kate Middleton

The wedding of the year? With over 22.8 million viewers, we’d say so! The Royal Wedding took place at the beautiful Westminster Abbey in London on April 29th. Kate’s ceremony gown has since sparked a trend for lace gowns and sleeves.

Happy 1st Anniversary Kelly & Rick!

Happy 1st Anniversary to our amazing couple Kelly and Rick! In honor of their anniversary,  take a look back at their beautiful wedding day at Giorgio’s Baiting Hollow in this little highlight video we created. Special thanks to our good friends over at The Studio Photographers for capturing these stunning shots. Congratulations also goes out to the couple as they welcomed their first son Andrew in August! Best wishes to the happy family!

On September 18th, Kelly McCreary and Rick Caso were wed at Giorgio’s Baiting Hollow out on Long Island. With the sun shining bright, the couple had the perfect weather for their outdoor ceremony. Surrounded by their family and friends, the couple had an an amazing ceremony out on the garden patio at Giorgio’s, overlooking the golf course.  The ceremony also featured a butterfly release in honor of Kelly’s late sister, Diana. It was such a beautiful touch – and an incredibly emotional moment. It was then off to the reception, where everyone was out on the dance floor dancing the afternoon away to celebrate the marriage of this special couple. The entire day was flawless and everyone had a great time! It was a pleasure working with Kelly and Rick – we wish them all the best!

Happy Labor Day from TFT!

We hope all are enjoying the holiday weekend!

Nicole & Chris

Words cannot describe how thankful we are for your amazing talent!  Thanks to you we had the most beautiful reception anyone has ever seen.  Our friends and family cannot stop saying how incredible the centerpieces, cocktail hour décor, signature drink signs, and table numbers were.

“Greatest Marriage Proposal EVER”? Well, it’s certainly the cutest!

This viral YouTube video might just make your future hubby jealous! A Georgia man, Matt Still, decided to get creative when proposing to his true love, Ginny Joiner. Matt hired a professional videographer to make his cinematic proposal come to life. He also enlisted the help of the local movie theater which allowed him to play the first part of the proposal on the big screen.

Matt tricked Ginny into going to the movies with her brother while he was “at work”. First, two actual movie trailers come on the screen. Then- the proposal begins!

What Ginny doesn’t know is that the movie theater is actually filled with her family and friends, and a videographer is shooting her during the whole proposal.

We give this proposal a thumbs up, but you might need to grab some tissues before watching!
